Then: Outsmarting the experienced people who tried to trick me into saying items are more valuable than they actually were.

Now: Underworld. I love nothing more than taking those who have never beaten it before through it. Or, those that have never beaten Dhuum. Either way, Underworld has always been my favorite non-outpost in the game.

Ahh...the old days of SF. It was my favorite back then too, I can't even count the number of B/P runs I did there a few years back hehe.

Now? Probably RA/FA lol

Then: Just completing prophecies was an accomplishment even THK alone was a challenge then.

Now: Nothing really don't play much just jump on time to time to sell / buy zkeys for zaishen title. Ready for GW's 2

Reminds me, most stressful thing in game now will probably be the title farming :/

I've only been playing for a bit over a year, but at the start, what drew me in was the character design, armor and costumes. The activity in Shing Jea Monastery when I arrived there for the first time. Being able to command an army of the undead and all I had to do was point to an enemy and simply say "Get him."

Now I love the ease at which I can run through things. I love the lore behind everything and how it affects everything else. You'll often find me on the wiki reading up on backstories. I haven't gotten around to the new content so much yet, but when I do, I know I'll love every minute of it.
Also now, (having my main character start in Factions), I'm loving pre!

I joined the game a wee bit before the release of factions, so my experience is a bit biased.

My favorite thing was doing the chest runs (back when there were such things as gold and purple chests) at raisu palace, mainly because it was laid back yet stressful to try and get that "awesome" item. I got my first Req 8 wep there (a GPB), which blew my mind at the time. Shame it had crappy mods...

when i first bought the game shortly after prophecies originally came out, i loved the scenery once i got out post-searing ascalon. the run to yak's bend was neat! there were lots of neat things to look at along the way. i also enjoyed the old solo farming of the desert gryphons in the elona desert with my long deleted w/mo. running people to droknar's forge was another good money maker at the time.

nowadays all i do on two current toons is participate in the jade quarry or run around sight seeing in other campaigns i haven't really put too many hours into.

My favorite thing starting out was exploring a new area and learning the lore, talking to every NPC I found.
My favorite thing now is being part of the broad gw and personal community of Guild Wars. Helping others is always fun as well.

GW was my first MMO. It was amazing that all those dots on my radar were people. The favorite thing now in GW is guildies. Without them I would have left long ago. If my favorite things in game were anything other than the people there, I guess I wouldn't be playing an MMO.

It still amazes me when I hit /age and see over 4000 hours over 5 something years. I used to think 300 hours on FF7 was awesomely involved but GW has beaten them all. If I was paying monthly I wouldn't be after all this time, but free play means I can happily run complete strangers, or talk crap or do whatever I feel like. I've done just about everything in game but I still get a thrill out of helping people, or giving away all the stuff I've amassed. It's definitely the other people that keep me interested.

I haven't played in almost 6 years. I played GW when it was first released and was blown away then. I miss constructing my first solo farming monk builds and finding areas pre-nerf. I miss making my first million and hoarding hundreds of black dye vials.

If I started playing again I'd have to learn everything all over again. I don't have the time to do that nowadays because I've gotten married and have a baby (and another one on the way.) I love my life but part of me does miss having the time to really play the game.

I'm tempted to start again when GW 2 comes out.

I miss duo/3-man trapping the UW back in '05, Ettin and Griffon farming. Selling Sup Vigors and absorptions for 100k, but I suppose the main thing I miss is the whole naivety I had at the start of the game. Genuinely running around as a Warrior with monk skills, Fighting Bears in presearing because I thought I was bad ass, not realising that pre was only the start of the game, and thinking it was still pretty big. Having my best friend play the game with me was also pretty awesome, but then he went to PVP, and I stayed PVE lol. Such is life.

These days, I just title farm. Chatting to guild members is probably the most interesting thing I do, seeing as most of my original in game friends have quit or play very rarely.

I bought the game in May 2005, and when I finally went through the searing the downgrade of scenery and jump in difficulty made me quit in disgust.
I started playing again late 2006 when my wife and I were looking for a game to play together.

I remember some major milestones that are completely BFD now.

1. I remember being able to find a PuG in every mission and even for some quests.

2. People selling Althea's ashes at Piken Square.

3. When I ran from Yak's Bend to LA (successfully, but almost died in the swamps), not understanding the mission progression would take me there naturally.

4. Getting my first elites in Boreas Seabed mission (I had a ranger, and BHA and barrage were godlike at that time)

5. Watching 7 out of 8 people in my PuG (not me) suicide charge the bonus in Ice Caves of Sorrow. One of them even typed "holy .....!" right as he died. (lucky for them I brought Rebirth)

6. Hard Mode came out and it was a privilege, not a right. No one was ever doing the missions.

7. When Kind of a Big Deal actually was a big deal.

8. First displayabel title...Sunspear General of course

9. PvP arenas 2007 through early 2009. Overpowered skills abuse (Shroud of Silence, BA turret rangers), before hexway everything and monks were more than punching bags.

I basically consider the end of the early days as the point where Godmode entered the game (Ursan, Shadowform, 600/smite)
